MY GOAL
Updated Goal: 2016
Okay, so now my goal has changed.
The races that I ran this summer allowed me to see running in a new light, as something other than a fuel to my demons. By motivating myself through the needs of others, I was able to invest my focus in something that benefited other people rather than my illness. Now that I have conquered that battle, I would like to move on to the next. I want to fight the stigma. For some reason, there is a dumb, demeaning, and hurtful stigma still out against mental illness. People either don’t take them seriously or relate them to weakness. I want to challenge that stigma.
I have joined many new programs at my new school which provide me with new platforms to share my story. I will be doing public outreach programs, interviews, and information sessions over the course of the next few months. Hopefully, with my insight and my own personal experience, I can begin to challenge the way the world sees mental illness and give a place for others to find hope.

My goal is to start a movement using what I love most. I want to run for the people that can’t. I want to be able to share my love of the sport with others and find a new purpose to fuel my running. It will no longer be fueled by my eating disorder but for the purpose of others. I’m hoping this new motivation will help me out the door each day, knowing that I am doing this for someone else.
I’d like to make a shirt each time I run a race in memory of a different person. I won’t be asking for any money while doing this movement. It is more for the cause that I am doing it. I hope to raise awareness for each child that I sponsor during each race, but it is as much for them as it is for me. My eating disorder has greatly affected my life and I am trying to take it back now. I will also be blogging about each child, telling their story. These children will be able to help me find my love for the sport again and help me identify myself without my eating disorder.
